COLIC (CHILDREN)

Colic involves acute abdominal pain, characterized by cramping and gas. It is most common in infants, but adults can suffer from it as well. These remedies are for colic in children.

Catnip and fennel is an old-fashioned colic remedy. Put a few drops in the child's mouth or on the bottoms of his or her feet.

If the Catnip and Fennel extract does not work, try making catnip and fennel tea, which is frequently more effective. Chamomile tea is also beneficial. Because colic is often caused by muscle cramps, lobelia and magnesium can help. You can also massage the infant's stomach with peppermint essential oil and lobelia.

Yeast infections in infants can also cause colic. To treat yeast infections, apply a few drops of lavender and tea tree essential oil topically. A garlic enema or a plain water enema with a drop or two of lavender oil essential in it can help knock down yeast and relieve severe colic. If yeast is a problem, giving the infant probiotics, particularly bifidophilus, will help. This can be taken orally by mixing with food or rectally in the form of an enema.
